As of today, all first-time drivers under 18 must complete the new 6-Hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course. The 4-hour TLSAE course is only for new drivers 18+ and older.

General
Once you successfully complete your course or exam:
• Your completion is reported automatically to Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
• You don’t need to mail or deliver anything in person.
• Processing is typically very fast—often immediately or within a few hours, depending on the course provider.
We recommend saving your emailed completion certificate for your own records. • Making sure your browser is up to date for the best experience
1️⃣ Complete a DETS/TSLAE Course
• This Drug and Alcohol course is required for all first-time drivers.
2️⃣ Pass the Knowledge Exam
• Take and pass the official Florida learner’s permit test. 18 and Older: You must take the knowledge exam in person at a DMV or tax collector office.
3️⃣ Gather Required Documents
• Make sure you have the necessary identification, residency, and consent forms.

4️⃣ Visit a DMV or Tax Collector Office
• Pass Vision test, take photo, pay applicable fees. Once these steps are complete, you’ll receive your Florida Learner’s Permit!

Exam results are reported to the State of Florida by the approved provider. If your exam isn’t showing as reported, it may be due to exam in-completion, payment, missing personal information, or a technical issue. Please ensure all required fields are completed correctly or please contact the provider you signed up with directly for help.
